"Under The Monkey's Thumb" is an advocacy poster addressing drug abuse and the ongoing fentanyl crisis. During my research, I encountered the phrase "monkey on your back," used to describe the burden of addiction, in recovery forums. I developed the concept of the monkey puppeteering the man to represent how drugs can take control of a person's life. As part of the project, we were required to draw inspiration from another artist, leading me to Morgan Sorenson, an artist who uses geometric figures, bold shapes, and distressed textures to convey somber tones, a mood and style I thought would fit well with the message of this poster.
